I've recently read a couple of articles that mention Tennessee as a great place to retire. Tennessee ranked number 5 on Kiplinger 20 Best States for Your Retirement (Slide 17). The reasons cited were: no state income tax and "below-average living costs in almost every category of expenses including healthcare".
If you are contemplating a move to Tennessee, or plan to retire in Tennessee; strongly consider the Lakeway Area. It’s absolutely beautiful, traffic jams are non-existent, and the cost of living is reasonable.
The Lakeway Area is best known for its natural beauty and gorgeous lakes: Cherokee Lake and Douglas Lake. If you are a fisherman, you will love it here. If you are not into fishing, worry not. The Lakeway Area offers numerous outdoor activities: hiking, boating, disc golf on championship caliber courses… is situated in the Tennessee Valley between Knoxville and the Tri-Cities; within an hour drive to Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
